October PTO Meeting Minutes
PTO Meeting minutes – October 13th, 2011
Present: Kim Porter, Sheryl Klosowsli , Rita Patrylo, Megha Cauglin, Darlene Santigo, Heather Sequeira, Mary Therese Linehan, Jennifer Carey, Amy Finneral, Tony Pagan, Denise Hoey, Carrie Carolan, George Hickey, Brenda Hickey, Edith LaBran, Melissa Tremblay, Mariam Dumond, Vighoti C. Tifah
The meeting was called to order at 6:30PM, PTO president Vighoti C. Tifah. He announced that the PTO was currently without a Vice President, and opened the floor for members to nominate candidates to fill that position. Melissa Tremblay, introduced Diane Le and Brenda Finch, two members who had indicated to Melissa, their willingness to serve as Co-Vice Presidents. Diane and Brenda were voted unanimously to the position.
- Motion to approve September meeting minutes, was made by Rita Patrylo, and 2nd by Jennifer Carey.
- Treasurer’s Report:
- Melissa, the treasurer, explained the numbers on the spread sheet, handout. She reported returns on “direct Appeal” fundraiser effort, in the amount of $50
- She gave a detailed report of operating expenses, from September thru October. For more details contact the teasurer.
- She announced that the school received $3426, grant, from Good Sports, to fund the ecumenical league, basketball. To money will be used to buy Basketballs, volleyballs, uniforms, etc. The Principal Edith explained that the grant comes with a condition, which is that the grantee pays a 10% admin. Fees, in this case $342.60, which reduces the amount that was approved to support the school in the ecumenical league program. She also noted that this will not cover the coaches’ stipends.

- School Update:
- The Principal Mrs. LaBran handled out MCAS, data documents, for ELA and math. She then gave a detailed explanation of the ELA data, also discussed some of the strategies her and her teachers are working on to improve performance. There were many questions from the parents and Principal Edith made an excellent effort to answer all the concerns. Parents were encouraged to call the school and make appointments, if they would like to discuss the data for their child or children.
- Old Business:
- Yankee Candle Fundraiser: Melissa Tremblay reported that all the orders went in and will be ready for pickup and distribution by October 28th.
- On Museum of Science sleep over (MOS) she reported that 30 students signed on and they have a good number of chaperons.
- Mrs. LaBran gave an update on the Walk – A – Thon: new date is Oct. 21st, and starting time is 9AM, from the school courtyard. And she also explained the route.
- New Business
- The 8th grade raffle is in progress, and they need items for the raffle basket. If you can help, please contact Melissa Tremblay.
- Announcements:
- School pictures are on October 28th, by OConnor studios or pictures
- Deadline for LHS Lyceum Academy exam registration, is Oct. 21st.
- The ski program is open for registrations – Contact Rita Patrylo or the school for details.
- Proposed Sullivan family multicultural Potluck, with a possible date of December 1st, 2011.
- November 9th, the 7th grade visits the Merrimack Repertory
- LHS Freshman Academy open house is on November 9th, 2011
